Senior Respite
The Senior Respite Program is specifically tailored for those aged 55 and older who serve as primary caregivers for children of relatives. This initiative recognizes the importance of respite care in supporting the mental, physical, and financial health of what are often referred to as “second-time” parents—those who take on caregiving responsibilities later in life.
Key Features of the Program:
-
- Free Childcare Services: Participants can access up to 16 hours of complimentary childcare each month. This opportunity allows caregivers to take a break, recharge, and focus on their own well-being, which ultimately enhances the quality of care they provide.
- Eligibility: The program is open to individuals aged 55 and above who are responsible for the care of their relatives’ children. Proof of custody or guardianship is required to enroll.
- Appointment-Based Access: Services are offered strictly by appointment, ensuring that caregivers receive personalized attention and support during their time in the program.
- Support Group: A monthly support group is available for participants to connect, share experiences, and gain insights from one another. This fosters a sense of community and reduces feelings of isolation.
- Engaging Activities: Exclusive programs and activities for seniors are organized to encourage socialization and enjoyment, allowing participants to further enrich their lives beyond caregiving duties.
Additional Support Offered:
The Senior Respite Program aims to address a variety of needs that caregivers may face:
-
- Infant and Child Needs: Assistance with essential items and supplies required for the care of children.
- Clothing and Items for Children: Access to resources for clothing and other necessary items for the children under care.
- Educational Classes: Opportunities for caregivers to participate in classes that equip them with skills and knowledge related to childcare and parenting.
- Food Pantry: Access to a food pantry to help alleviate food insecurity and ensure that caregivers and their families have adequate nutrition.
- Community Referrals: Guidance and referrals to additional community resources and services that can support caregivers in various aspects of their lives.
- And More: The program strives to meet the diverse needs of participants by continuously exploring new resources and support options.
This comprehensive approach is designed to empower caregivers, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to thrive in their dual roles as caregivers and individuals.
